About University Commons

University Commons is the former South Water Market. Originally completed in 1925, the six buildings served for over 80 years as the fruits market of Chicago. There are 38 different floor plans available to purchase from the developer. While some are more common than others with each resident being able to select different finishes, many units, while the same layout. have different bathroom finishes and kitchen finishes.


There are a total of 917 units in the complex and many different options depending on what size unit a buyer is desired. Options include 1 bedroom plus den, 2 bedroom/2 baths and 2 bedrooms/2 bath simplex and duplex unit. The 4th floor is an addition to the buildings with the 3rd floor being the original top of the building.. The 4th floor is not non lofted condos and called penthouse units.
